Around this time of the year, women everywhere are reaching into their makeup drawers or bags or cabinets and pulling out the foundation. So what to do if you make a mistake and apply too much? Try these great tips I got from the new Sephora book.
Ross Burton, a Lancome makeup artist, suggests putting a dime-sized amount of moisturizer on a foundation brush and working the brush over your face. If you don't have a foundation brush, your fingers should do. Another Burton trick is to separate a two-ply tissue, placing one ply on your face and moving it around to pick up the excess. I've used the first trick in the past entirely by accident and found it works great.
Love nude lips but wonder how in the world to get them? Cover lips with concealer or foundation before applying gloss. This renders lips practically colorless -- a great look paired with smokey eyes.
Short hair is more trendy than ever with some women opting to go super-short (the photo here of singer Pink is one of my most popular short hairstyle photos on my site).
A few years ago I cut my hair short after a particularly bad breakup and I got a ton of compliments on my hair (no one noticed when I got my long hair trimmed, but go short and you make a statement). The comments came almost daily. It blew my mind.
So is short hair for you? Should you opt for a bob or an edgy, punk cut? Check out these new photo galleries and decide for yourself.

I don't know if it's the Retin-A, building furnaces or the natural aging process, but every winter my skin becomes dry and flaky. I've tried everything from Eucerin's Aquaphor Original Ointment (love it, but it's a tad greasy for my face) to Revaleskin Coffeeberry Day Cream (obsessed! Obsessed!) and now I'm going to try YuBe Moisturizing Skin Cream ($13-$15 for a 1.5 oz. tube) , which I've been reading about for a couple years now. Beauty editors have gone ga-ga for it, and I'm not sure it's because it's so great or if they got a freebie from the company. I don't always trust my fellow beauty editor.
YuBe (which I paid for myself) is the No. 1 selling medicated skin cream in Japan and the packaging claims it is used by people hiking Everest (!!!). By the way, Eucerin's Aquaphor is apparently used by Olympic skiiers who are not likely on Eucerin's payroll.
I plan to keep YuBe in my purse because it's cute and purse-sized. I'll let you know if I fall in love with it. Right now it feels a little greasy on my face and smells vaguely medicinal, like menthol.
Cold sufferers: If you hate, hate, hate the way your nose peels right after a cold and you feel the constant need to apologize, "That is not dried snot, my nose is recovering from a cold," I highly recommend smothering the nose area in Aquaphor and exfoliating with a washcloth. My nose was so bad a few weeks ago after a cold that I put Aquaphor in a tiny container in my purse. It did the trick, perfectly.
No matter your face shape there are going to be hairstyles that look good on you and others that simply aren't as flattering. There is, however, one haircut that looks good on all face shapes. Find out what it is in one of the most popular articles on this site, "The Perfect Haircut."

Question: How Can I Keep Lipstick Off My Teeth?
Answer: Here's a simple trick we once read models use to keep lipstick off their teeth. Apply lipstick, then place a finger in your mouth. Close lips around your finger and pull finger out. This should remove any excess lipstick, thereby keeping it from collecting on your teeth.
